Biography

Sajid, a Ph.D. candidate in the Security Studies program, is a highly decorated Indian Police Service officer (Two Star) with over 20 years of progressively senior experience in law enforcement and counterterrorism. He was the first officer chosen to serve in the National Investigation Agency, India's federal counterterror investigating agency. Sajid has commanded the investigation of many sensitive terror cases like Mumbai Terror Attacks conspiracy case, Patna serial blasts case, Bodh Gaya serial blast cases, etc. He is among the rare officers who have twice been conferred with the Police Gallantry Medal by the President of India. He was also awarded Police Medal for Meritorious Services by the President of India for his exemplary and unblemished service career. He was an adjunct associate professor at John Jay College, New York, where he taught a course titled “Terrorism and Politics” and an adjunct instructor at the School of Professional Studies at Columbia University. His research focuses on variations in doctrinal interpretations and their relationship with the production of violence. He holds a M.A. in International Affairs (with specializations in Middle East and international security policy) from Columbia University and another M.A. from Princeton University. He has published a number of papers and articles in various journals and international magazines.
