Princeton University’s School of Public and International Affairs and Rutgers University’s Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy are hosting our first Policy Hackathon on Princeton's campus. Students from both universities will work with each other, across disciplines and experience levels, to solve a complex policy issue in two hours. Students will share their findings and judges will choose the most outstanding solution. This year, our challenge centers on environmental policy, specifically, the organized retreat of communities from New Jersey’s shores. We will ask students to think of the following:
How would you approach this challenge? What data would you draw on? What administrative levers would you use to ensure compliance and implementation? How would you ensure equity? What considerations that might otherwise be overlooked would require special consideration? What are pitfalls and how would you avoid them?
Our judges will consist of policy leaders in academic, government, private, and nonprofit sectors.
