The Afghanistan Policy Lab (APL) at the Princeton School of Public and International Affairs (SPIA), in partnership with the Central Asia Institute (CAI), is pleased to convene the Afghanistan Policy Dialogue, a one-day convening bringing together policymakers, scholars, practitioners, members of the diplomatic community, representatives of international organizations, civil society leaders, education experts, and philanthropic organizations to examine Afghanistan’s future and the foundations required for lasting peace, prosperity, and stability.
Nearly twenty-five years after the September 11 attacks and five years after the Taliban’s return to power, Afghanistan remains at the center of critical international discussions on security, governance, human rights, humanitarian needs, and development. The country continues to face profound challenges, including restrictions on the rights and opportunities of women and girls, shrinking civic space, economic fragility, and uncertainty surrounding its long-term political and social trajectory.
At the same time, Afghanistan’s future will depend not only on addressing immediate challenges, but also on investing in the foundations necessary for a more resilient and stable society. Education, human capital development, civic participation, and opportunities for women and young people remain essential pillars for Afghanistan’s long-term peace and prosperity.
