Dr. Yuanyu Xie is an Associate Research Scholar at the Center for Policy Research on Energy and the Environment at Princeton University. Her research focuses on decision-relevant understanding of the interactions between air pollution and extreme events, and their impacts on public health in a changing climate. By combining surface and satellite observations with a hierarchy of modeling frameworks – including global Earth system and chemical transport models, regional coupled meteorology–chemistry models, and health impact assessment models – she investigate how increasing wildfire activity is worsening air quality and driving more frequent exceedances of U.S. air quality standards, as well as how meteorological variability and extremes complicate air quality management in India. Her work has direct policy relevance and has informed several changes in air quality management practices. Prior to joining Princeton, Yuanyu earned her Ph.D. from Tsinghua University and was a postdoctoral research associate at the NOAA Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory.
