In recent decades, a myriad of threats and risks have emerged, shaking up the threat environment in Europe. The predicaments abound: should the E.U. further deepen their foreign and security policy coordination or perhaps even begin to integrate their military apparatuses? How should European states handle the reemergence of Russian aggression in the East? What answer should NATO or the EU have for states calling for further expansion? What is the best strategy to address the massive refugee movement and the consequent human security crisis? Is the future of European security focused on the European Union, or NATO, or neither? This virtual conference brings together a cross-section of scholars to discuss this diverse array of challenges to European security. Our panelists will include experts on NATO, the European Union, European defense, Russian foreign policy, human security, refugee crises, and populism. We will also ask them to comment on the effect of the global COVID-19 pandemic. Such a diverse array of subjects will appeal not only to traditional strategic studies and international relations scholars but also to practitioners and analysts concerned with the future of American and European foreign policymaking.
