Disinformation is one of the gravest threats to peace, democracy, and sustainable development in the 21st century. Carolina Azevedo has seen this up close. As the spokeswoman and chief of strategic communications, and a senior management team member for the UN Mission in Colombia during the historic 2016 peace process, she witnessed firsthand how disinformation can unravel a country’s social fabric. Join Carolina as she delves into real-world case studies from the battle against disinformation: from the wildest conspiracy theories surrounding the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development to addressing disinformation during elections in Kenya and fighting hate speech in Costa Rica. With over 24 years of professional experience—18 of them within the UN, both at headquarters and on the ground—Carolina invites you to explore the delicate and crucial lessons on defending truth and building trust in an increasingly complex and polarized world.

MPP Forum is a weekly event normally scheduled on Fridays with *lunch during the academic year. It allows each MPP student to showcase their career journey and expertise on a policy issue of their choice with the SPIA community. This formal presentation lasts about 50 minutes, followed by a 20-minute Q&A.

*RSVP required. We will try our best, but we cannot guarantee accommodation for all dietary restrictions.
