Twenty-Five Years After 9/11—Lessons Learned, U.S. Policy, and Pathways to Peace and Stability in Afghanistan

The Afghanistan Policy Lab (APL) at Princeton University’s School of Public and International Affairs is pleased to invite you to a public panel discussion titled “Twenty-Five Years After 9/11: Lessons Learned, U.S. Policy, and Pathways to Peace and Stability in Afghanistan,” on Thursday, August 27, 2026, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM EDT at the Princeton SPIA DC Center, followed by a reception.
Held in the lead-up to the twenty-fifth anniversary of the September 11 attacks, this discussion will reflect on how Afghanistan has shaped U.S. foreign policy, global security, and international engagement over the past quarter century.
The panel will examine lessons from two decades of international engagement in Afghanistan, the role of U.S. policy, and the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. It will consider what can be learned from the past and how future U.S. and international engagement can more effectively support peace, stability, human security, and the aspirations of the Afghan people, while also addressing broader regional and international priorities.
