Biography

I am a comparative political scientist with expertise in Gender and Development and the Political Economy of Development. I have regional expertise in South Asia, and India in particular. I have joint projects outside of South Asia in Ghana and Brazil. I am a mixed methods researcher using causal inference combined with ethnographic and qualitative fieldwork to provide evidence.

My research explores institutional reforms intended to reduce gender inequality in political opportunity and participation. In a related body of work, I look at how social norms and economic or status inequalities affect how women, especially those who are already marginalized, react to institutional reforms and gender inequities. The results of these studies have encouraged me to carry out research that advances our understanding of how norms evolve and endure through generations with focus on climate and technological shocks.
