David A. Mayorga to Join SPIA as Associate Dean for Public Affairs and Communications
David A. Mayorga, a public affairs veteran with experience in federal and state government and the private sector, is joining the School of Public and International Affairs as associate dean for public affairs and communications.
Chosen after a national search, he will begin his new role on February 19.

His leadership and team development skills will help him plan and execute an overall public affairs and communications strategy for the School to showcase the incredible work of our faculty and our student body. Mayorga comes to SPIA from the U.S. Department of Energy, where he was appointed by President Biden in 2021 to serve as the director of public affairs. Prior to that, he was the communications director for the Office of the Attorney General for the District of Columbia. Mayorga has also held senior communications positions with the federal Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and Qorvis Communications LLC.
Mayorga, an immigrant and openly LGBTQ person, was the first in his immediate family to earn a bachelor’s degree. He began his professional career as a legislative aide to a member of Congress and for the U.S. House Committee on Science.
