The Princeton School of Public and International Affairs is partnering with WNYC Studios on a new podcast celebrating the author James Baldwin on the centennial of his birth.
Notes on a Native Son launches September 21 and is hosted by Razia Iqbal, a longtime BBC journalist and the John L. Weinberg/Goldman Sachs & Co. Visiting Professor and Lecturer at Princeton SPIA. The six-episode series is produced in partnership with WNYC’s “Notes From America With Kai Wright” and will feature public figures reflecting on Baldwin’s work.
“Encountering the work of James Baldwin when I was a teenager, growing up in London in the 1970s, transformed me and gave me solace. He was, first and foremost, a terrific writer,” Iqbal said. “His compassionate, humane, and unique perspective has left a lasting impact. I am excited to continue to explore his legacy with some of today’s great minds.”
Guests on the podcast will include prominent international writers and thinkers, including Ta-Nehisi Coates, Nikki Giovanni, Siri Hustvedt, Elif Shafak, Bryan Stevenson, and Colm Tóibín.
Notes on a Native Son is a Sea Salt and Mango production. Its director is veteran audio producer Tony Phillips, who has been making award-winning programs for the BBC and WNYC Studios for three decades.
New episodes of Notes on a Native Son will be available to stream on demand every Saturday on the “Notes From America With Kai Wright” feed.
