Alexander Hydrean
Biography
Born and raised in Downingtown, Pennsylvania, Alex studied earth systems engineering at Cornell University. Upon graduating in 2010, he was commissioned into the U.S. Navy where he served as a submarine officer on the USS San Francisco out of San Diego. While onboard the San Francisco, Alex completed two deployments in the Western Pacific theater supporting numerous missions vital to national security. In 2015, Alex transferred to the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) in Washington, D.C., where he led over 16 nuclear arms control and nonproliferation inspections in the United States and Russian Federation. Upon completing his active duty service in 2018, Alex continued at DTRA as an international relations specialist where he primarily supported the implementation of the U.S.-Russian New START Treaty. He also continues to serve in the U.S. Navy Reserves as an undersea warfare officer. This past summer, Alex worked as a Graduate Policy Intern with the New Jersey Office of the Governor. He is excited to broaden his expertise in domestic policy while at Princeton. Alex enjoys the outdoors, exercise, travel, and spending time with his wife, Rebecca, daughter, Rosemary, and their dog, Sourdough.
