Betsabe Rojas Gonzalez
Biography
Betsabe is Mexican-American and originally from Texcaltitlan, Mexico. She was a Martin Scholar at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte with double majors in economics and political science and a minor in statistics. She has participated in several research studies on domestic violence and debt anxiety, which she has presented nationwide. Since 2019, Betsabe has been a community organizer with the grassroots immigrant rights organization Comunidad Colectiva. She helped connect the immigrant communities in Charlotte to resources, such as Know Your Rights training, COVID relief funds, and vaccination drives. She was selected as a 2020 Charles B. Rangel Summer Enrichment Scholar, a Truman Finalist, a U.S. Foreign Service Intern, and a 2022 Thomas R. Pickering Fellow. After graduation, she will join the Foreign Service, where she hopes to help advance U.S. interest in promoting democracy and protecting human rights. She is fluent in English, Spanish, French, and Portuguese.
