Biography

Juan Carlos is a Spanish and Peruvian American from Rockville, Maryland, who studied history at Brown University. After interning for U.S. Congressman David Cicilline and the U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, he returned to Washington to begin a career in public service in the Office of U.S. Senator Ben Cardin, working first as a staff assistant and then as a legislative correspondent. In this capacity, Juan Carlos assisted in the drafting of legislation and recommendations for the Senator on labor, technology, immigration, and social safety net policy. His main interest is the evolving relationship between the state and individuals and markets, and true to his background in overseas relations, the role of the state in the international system. Juan Carlos completed his internship this summer with the U.S. Department of the Treasury. After his studies at Princeton, he plans to continue to build a career in public service to help develop and advance policies for an economy that is more equitable and strategic.
