Biography
Born and raised in the rural Appalachian region of Tennessee, Newby completed his undergraduate education at Princeton University, where he was a co-recipient of the 2018 Pyne Prize, the highest general distinction conferred on an undergraduate. In summer 2017, he worked in the Disability Rights Section of the U.S. Department of Justice, Civil Rights Division. As one of Princeton’s SINSI fellows, he completed the first year of the MPA in 2019. He then began his first rotation at the Justice Department Civil Rights Division in the Special Litigation section in Washington, D.C. Newby’s undergraduate research, which focused on criminal justice reform and judicial independence, has inspired him to pursue a career in civil rights law with the intent of entering the judiciary.
