Biography

Melania is a science diplomacy consultant, specializing in climate change and ocean governance. With a background in mechanical engineering, space technologies and oceanography, she provides technical advice, facilitates partnerships and communications with decision-makers to formulate evidence-based policies that promote the advancement of climate action, marine conservation and sustainable development. As an academic researcher, she focused for over 10 years on the Arctic ecosystem and is currently a visiting professor of Climate Governance at the University for Peace in Costa Rica. In 2018 she was awarded the U.N./Nippon Fellowship to train ocean diplomacy skills at the Division of Ocean Affairs & Law of the Sea. In 2019 she participated in the Homeward Bound program to Antarctica, which provides leadership capacity building to a growing network of women scientists, in order to elevate their roles as global change makers.
