Matthew Kertman
Biography
Matt is an international development practitioner committed to the realization of an equitable, inclusive, and more robust civil society. A communications professional with 15 years in the nonprofit sector, he is especially interested in exploring how policy alternatives in development theory can help achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. Until recently, Matt was the Senior Manager for Communications at BRAC USA, where he oversaw all communications in North America for BRAC, a global development organization based in Bangladesh, with a particular focus on crisis communications, public relations, and fundraising. A returned Peace Corps volunteer who served in South Africa, Matt's professional experience also includes stints in community development, advocacy, and broadcast journalism. He cut his teeth working for veteran journalist Bill Moyers at New York’s WNET. Matt graduated from Wesleyan University with a B.A. in film studies with honors. He is conversational in Spanish and siSwati, a language spoken in South Africa and Eswatini (formerly Swaziland). Aside from an abiding love for food of the world, Matt harbors a guilty pleasure for dance music. He is also an avid runner, and looks forward to exploring the trails around campus. Matt is excited to learn from the community at Princeton.
