Biography
Tom was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, and grew up in Oxfordshire, England. After studying history at Oxford University, he spent over five years working for the U.K. Civil Service, predominantly in the U.K. Treasury. His work has mostly involved advising Treasury ministers on setting budgets for other government departments and on how those departments’ proposed policies affect the Treasury’s objectives. Having previously covered environmental and housing issues, he currently works as head of disability benefits and disability employment for the Treasury. Tom is also interested in international affairs, and undertook a secondment to the U.K.’s Representation to the European Union when the U.K. was still a Member State, where he worked on climate and environmental policies. Tom has completed a graduate diploma in economics in his spare time, and is looking forward to using his time at Princeton to further develop his knowledge of economics and to learn from his peers about how public policy is made in other countries.
