The Afghanistan Policy Lab (APL) at the Princeton School of Public and International Affairs (SPIA) is pleased to convene a one-day policy forum bringing together policymakers, scholars, practitioners, members of the diplomatic community, international organizations, civil society leaders, and education experts to examine some of the most pressing issues shaping Afghanistan’s future.
Now entering the fifth year since the Taliban’s return to power, Afghanistan continues to face political, social, and humanitarian challenges. Restrictions on civic space have deepened, women and girls continue to experience severe limitations on their rights and opportunities, and prospects for an inclusive political future remain uncertain. At the same time, Afghan communities, educators, civil society actors, and international partners continue to seek practical ways to preserve social resilience, support vulnerable populations, and prepare for a more inclusive future.
This forum will provide a platform for informed, forward-looking discussions centered on three interconnected themes:
- The future of civic space and the rights of women and girls.
- Pathways toward national healing and reconciliation.
- Practical strategies for sustaining and expanding educational opportunities for Afghan girls.
