The Future of Globalization and International Governance in an Era of Change

Over the past three decades, the world has witnessed unprecedented economic integration, driving technological advancements and widespread growth. Despite periodic crises and disruptions, global institutions such as the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund (IMF), and the European Union (EU) have played a crucial role in fostering international cooperation and stability. However, the current political landscape is shifting, with a rise in populist movements advocating for greater national control, reduced trade, stricter immigration policies, and restricted capital flows. As multilateral institutions face growing skepticism and resistance, the future of globalization hangs in the balance. Will these challenges lead to economic turmoil and geopolitical conflict, or could they pave the way for a more sustainable and equitable global order? Five leading scholars of globalization and governance will offer their insights, examining what aspects of the global system will endure and how international cooperation might evolve in this transformative era.
