CISS Careers Team invites you to a panel with Amb. Robert Hutchings, former chairman of the National Intelligence Council, and Margaret Mullins, National Security Advisor to Senator Raphael Warnock (D-GA), two distinguished experts with national security experience in particularly political spaces. Whether in Congress or the White House, staffers who occupy national security positions must navigate the tension of pleasing superiors (or their constituents) and dealing with political realities, all while advocating for the best policy solutions. Join us for an honest conversation on the advantages, limitations, or strategies our guests have experienced and wielded to effect good policies in the National Security Council or the US Senate.

Ambassador Robert Hutchings is a Lecturer at Princeton University. He is a former Dean of the LBJ School of Public Affairs at UT Austin, and the former Diplomat in Residence at Princeton. In 2003-05, he was Chairman of the U.S. National Intelligence Council. He was also Director for European Affairs at the National Security Council, and Special Adviser to the Secretary of State, with the rank of ambassador. A graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, he received his Ph.D. from the University of Virginia. He is the author and editor of several books.

Margaret Mullins serves as the National Security Advisor to U.S. Senator Raphael Warnock (Ga.). She previously worked for Senator Michael Bennet (Colo.) and Senator Patty Murray (Wash.). Margaret has served as an active duty intelligence officer in the U.S. Army. She has a BSFS from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service, an MPA from Princeton University, and a JD from Georgetown University Law Center. She is a Council on Foreign Relations Term Member and a Defense Council member of the Truman National Security Project.
