Political Scientist Michael Danielson Dies at 82
Princeton University political scientist Michael Danielson, who helped modernize the study of local government in the United States and abroad, died Sept. 22 in Princeton, New Jersey. He was 82 years old.Danielson, the B.C. Forbes Professor of Public Affairs, Emeritus, and professor of politics and public affairs, emeritus, joined the Princeton faculty in 1962 and transferred to emeritus status in 2005. Born in New York City, Danielson received his bachelor's and master's degrees from Rutgers University and his Ph.D. from Princeton. Krueger Named 2017 Moynihan Prize Recipient
The American Academy of Political and Social Science (AAPSS) has named Alan Krueger the recipient of the 2017 Daniel Patrick Moynihan Prize.The Moynihan Prize was created to honor the legacy of the late Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan, who championed the use of rigorous social science research in service of the public good. As one of the country’s oldest learned societies, the AAPSS advances science and public policy by bringing research to bear on critical social problems.Krueger was inducted as an AAPSS Fellow in 2003, and will formally accept the Moynihan Prize on Capitol Hill on May 18, 2017. Zelizer Named Member of the National Academy of Social Insurance
The National Academy of Social Insurance (NASI) – a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization comprised of the nation’s leading experts on social insurance – has nominated and approved Julian E. Zelizer as a new member.Zelizer is the Malcolm Stevenson Forbes, Class of 1941 Professor of History and Public Affairs at Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs. He has been one of the pioneers in the revival of American political history.Zelizer is the author of several books including, most recently, "The Fierce Urgency of Now: Lyndon Johnson, Congress, and the Battle for the Great Society." New Fund to Support Creative Quantitative Research Projects Announces Call for Proposals
A new fund offered through Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs will focus on cross-disciplinary projects involving quantitative data analysis.A call for proposals is open to fund creative research projects, made possible by the Overdeck Family Foundation, which has donated $1 million to create the Overdeck Education Research Innovation Fund. Dean Rouse Featured in “America’s Course on Poverty”
A new online course focused on poverty and inequality in the United States will launch Oct. 11 and run until Dec. 15, 2016. Denise Dunning MPA ’01 has won a “120 Under 40” award from the Bill & Melinda Gates Institute for Population and Reproductive Health.Launched on World Contraception Day, Sept. 26, 2015, the “120 Under 40” project recognizes and highlights the achievements of the next generation of family planning leaders worldwide. American Economic Association Names Krueger Vice President
Alan Krueger has been selected as one of two vice presidents of the American Economic Association for 2017.Krueger is the Bendheim Professor of Economics and Public Policy at Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs and director of Princeton’s Survey Research Center. MacArthur Foundation Names Quiñonez a 2016 Fellow
The MacArthur Foundation has named José A. Quiñonez a 2016 MacArthur Fellow. Quiñonez, who earned a Master of Public Affairs (MPA) degree in 1998 from Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs, is one of 23 fellows named to the foundation’s class this year.Quiñonez joins the following Wilson School MPA alumni who also have been named MacArthur Fellows: Taylor Branch MPA '70, Martin Eakes MPA/JD '80 and Jon Rapping MPA '92. International Panel on Social Progress Seeks Comments on Report
The International Panel on Social Progress (IPSP), which brings together social scientists around the world to analyze social trends and spur debate about social change and possible choices between alternative policies and institutions, is seeking comments on the first draft of its report.The panel has launched an online platform where those interested can read the report and register to provide feedback.
