Wilson School Professors Receive Honorary Degrees
Four professors based at Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School recently received honorary degrees from institutions around the country and world.Janet Currie, Henry Putnam Professor of Economics and Public Affairs and director of the Center for Health and Wellbeing, was awarded a Doctor Honoris Causa by Université Jean Moulin Lyon III in Lyon, France. Rouse Receives Centennial Medal from Harvard University
Cecilia Rouse, dean of Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School, was among the four Harvard University alumni to receive the Centennial Medal on May 25.Presented by Harvard's Graduate School of Arts and Sciences (GSAS), the medal is GSAS’s highest honor and recognizes alumni who have made extraordinary contributions to society.Rouse’s primary research interests are in labor economics with a focus on the economics of education. Wilson School Faculty Receive Innovation Fund Awards
Two proposals submitted by faculty based at the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs were among those selected to receive awards from Princeton’s 250th Anniversary Fund for Innovation in Undergraduate Education.Established in 1996 in conjunction with Princeton’s 250th anniversary, the Fund for Innovation supports the University’s “central and enduring commitment to outstanding undergraduate teaching.” Each year, the fund supports initiatives that allow faculty to explore new pedagogical methods to enhance student learning, foster interdisciplinary connections and redefine teaching and assessment practices.Charles M. McCarty Awarded 2016 Franklin L. Burdette/Pi Sigma Alpha Award
Nolan McCarty, Susan Dod Brown Professor of Politics and Public Affairs at Princeton University, was named co-recipient of the 2016 Franklin L. Burdette/Pi Sigma Alpha Award by the American Political Science Association (APSA).This prize is awarded annually to the best paper presented at the previous year’s annual APSA meeting. McCarty and co-authors John Voorheis, University of Oregon, and Boris Shor, Georgetown University, presented their award-winning paper, “Unequal Incomes, Ideology and Gridlock: How Rising Inequality Increases Political Polarization,” in 2015. Marta Tienda to Deliver 2016 Brown Lecture in Education Research
Marta Tienda, a professor of sociology and public affairs at the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University, has been selected by the American Educational Research Association (AERA) to present the 2016 Brown Lecture in Education Research. Three Wilson School Faculty Elected to American Academy of Arts and Sciences
The American Academy of Arts and Sciences announced the election of 213 new members. The new members include some of the world’s most accomplished scholars, scientists, writers, artists, as well as civic, business and philanthropic leaders.Among those elected into this newest class of distinguished members are seven Princeton University faculty, three of whom are based at Princeton’s Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs.
