Sir Angus Deaton has been appointed Presidential Professor of Economics at the University of Southern California (USC). This honor is presented to individuals who have high academic recognition combined with landmark contributions to society.
Deaton, winner of the 2015 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences, will spend two months a year working with researchers at USC, both remotely and in California. The role does not include teaching.
Deaton will work with faculty at the USC Dornsife Center for Self-Report Science, the USC Dornsife Center for Economic and Social Research, and the USC Schaeffer Center for Health Policy and Economics.
Deaton will continue to be a senior scholar and the Dwight D. Eisenhower Professor of Economics and International Affairs, Emeritus, at Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs.
Deaton’s current research focuses on the determinants of health in rich and poor countries, as well as on the measurement of poverty and inequality in the United States, India and around the world. He won the Nobel Prize in Economics for his analysis of consumption, poverty, and welfare.
