The Princeton School of Public and International Affairs has long had a significant presence among and within the three branches of the federal government. Now the School has a zip code and office space – and a bold new outlook – to go with it. Endowed Professorships to Two SPIA Faculty; Promotions for Two Others
Two members of the faculty of the Princeton School of Public and International Affairs were named to endowed professorships, effective April 1, and two faculty members were promoted to associate professor, effective July 1. Christopher F. Chyba was named the Dwight D. Eisenhower Professor in International Affairs and professor of astrophysical sciences, and Denise Mauzerall was named the William S. Six Princeton Professors Have Been Elected to American Academy of Arts and Sciences
Princeton faculty members Linda Colley, Rafaela Dancygier, Judith Hamera, Ilya Kaminsky, Fintan O’Toole and Laurence Ralph have been elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. SPIA in New Jersey to Launch With Public Event April 28
The Princeton School of Public and International Affairs will launch its SPIA in New Jersey initiative with a half-day of presentations and panel discussions the morning of Friday, April 28. The event begins at 9 a.m. in Arthur Lewis Auditorium, in Robertson Hall. Built around robust programing with partners statewide, SPIA in New Jersey focuses on research-based, nonpartisan public policy that advances racial, social, and economic justice in the Garden State. The initiative is an outgrowth of Dean Amaney Jamal’s stated strategic goal of increasing SPIA’s reach and impact in its home state.

Denise Mauzerall wasn’t sure whether she wanted to become a scientist or a lawyer. All she knew was that she wanted to have the biggest impact on the natural world that she could.“Since I was a kid, I’ve been committed to trying to figure out how to solve environmental problems,” says Mauzerall, a professor of environmental engineering and international affairs at Princeton. SPIA Reacts: Bank Bailouts – No Bank Is Too Small to Matter
The Silicon Valley Bank bailout was necessary. But was it timely or fair? If the intervention itself was timely, the decision to intervene was by all indications anything but. In a similar vein, the bailout does not do particularly well on the fairness test. To commemorate International Women’s Day, the Afghanistan Policy Lab profiled eight Afghan women, highlighting the struggle and the fight of women in the country. These profiles share the struggle of Afghan women to survive, to live and not give up their fight, and to hope. These courageous women write poignantly of the lives of Afghan women in the country today, when simply breathing is a struggle. Evacuated Experts Keep the Conversation About Afghanistan Alive
Researchers at Princeton’s Afghanistan Policy Lab Are Researching Four Key Areas of Policy The journey from Afghanistan to Princeton was not easy for Lutf Ali Sultani. Sultani worked as a journalist for a newspaper during the two-decade period when the U.S.-backed Afghan government supported freedom of the press.
