Baldwin Wins Student Paper Award from American Meteorological Society’s Board on Environment and Health

Jane Baldwin, a Ph.D. candidate in Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences at Princeton University, has received a top student paper award from the American Meteorological Society’s (AMS) Board on Environment and Health.Her winning presentation at AMS’ Eighth Conference on Environment and Health was titled “Quantifying the Risk of Compound Heat Wave Events.” It analyzed heat-wave events and their probabilities in the present and projected future.Baldwin is a fellow with Princeton Environmental Institute’s Program in Science, Technology, and Environmental Policy (PEI-STEP), offered in affiliation with Princeton’s Woodrow Wilson School of Public and…

Students Selected for 2017 Scholars in the Nation’s Service Initiative

Ten students at Princeton University have been selected to the 2017 cohort of the Scholars in the Nation’s Service Initiative (SINSI).Established in 2006, SINSI is designed to encourage, support and prepare the nation’s top students to pursue careers in the U.S. federal government, in both international and domestic agencies. Through rigorous academic training integrated with work experience, the goal of the highly competitive scholarship program is to provide students with the language and workplace skills needed to succeed in the public policy arena.This year, for the first time, two groups of students have been admitted to the program. A recent conference, “Human Development in the Dominican Republic,” brought together policymakers from the Dominican Republic’s government and scholars from universities in the United States and Latin America to discuss education-focused projects and topics, including teacher ability and quality, school choice and search behavior, school construction and returns of education.Christopher Neilson, assistant professor of economics and public affairs at Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs, helped to organize the event. Buchanan Wins Outstanding Student Paper Award from American Geophysical Union

Maya Buchanan, a Ph.D. candidate at Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs concentrating in in Science, Technology, and Environmental Policy (STEP), has received an Outstanding Student Paper Award from the American Geophysical Union (AGU). Her winning presentation at the fall 2016 AGU meeting was titled “Amplification of flood frequencies with local sea-level rise and emerging flood regimes.” The work estimates the magnitude and pattern by which the frequency of current flood levels increase with sea level rise across the United States, metrics that are important for developing more resilient coastal…

Danspeckgruber to Advise the Austrian Chairmanship-in-Office of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe

Wolfgang Danspeckgruber, founding director of the Liechtenstein Institute on Self-Determination (LISD) at Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs, will advise the new chairmanship-in-office and will co-chair special academic programs for the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE).
