In his new book, "The Back Channel: A Memoir of American Diplomacy and the Case for its Renewal," storied diplomat Amb. William J. Burns opens a window on American diplomacy in action over the course of a 33-year career. A former deputy secretary of state and former ambassador to Russia — during the collapse of post-Cold War relations with Putin — Burns has served five presidents and ten secretaries of state, and currently serves as president of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.

Burns will be interviewed by Amb. Daniel C. Kurtzer on a wide range of topics, from rising Chinese and Russian ambitions, the weakened U.S. State Dept., and Burns' role in negotiating the Iran nuclear deal, to anecdotes from Burns on interacting with Vladimir Putin, King Hussein, Hillary Clinton, and more.

Join us for a conversation, book sale, and signing of a brand-new (March 2019) work that has received rave reviews from John Kerry, Henry Kissinger, Madeleine K. Albright, Hillary Clinton, and many more.
