The Honorable Tzipi Livni, co-leader of the Zionist Union Party and former minister of foreign affairs for the State of Israel, will present a public talk titled, "The Free World and Israel: Facing the Challenges of a Changing Middle East," at 4:30 p.m., Monday, April 18, 2016, in Dodds Auditorium, Robertson Hall on the Princeton University campus. Livni is the Woodrow Wilson School’s Gruss Lipper Scholar in Middle East Policy Studies visitor.

Livni has served in a variety of ministerial positions in the Israeli government. These include minister of foreign affairs, acting prime minister, minister of justice and head of the Israeli team in the peace process negotiations with the Palestinians in 2008 and 2013.

Livni also was a member of the National Security Cabinet and the Senior Security Cabinet during the Second Lebanon War, Operation Cast Lead and Operation Protective Edge. She served as a lieutenant in the Israel Defense Forces and later in the Mossad.

Livni holds a law degree and has practiced law for over a decade. She also served as director general of the government companies authority.

Livni is currently the head of the Hatnua Party and co-leader of the Zionist Union, which heads the opposition. She is a member of the Foreign Affairs & Defense Committee, and head of the Subcommittee for International Legal Warfare. She engages in issues of asymmetrical warfare and Israel’s national security.
