Caroline Kuritzkes
Biography
Hailing from New York City, Caroline served in Washington, D.C., as a foreign policy legislative aide for U.S. Senator Jeff Merkley (D-OR), leading his policy agenda for the Western Hemisphere and international development finance. Her work on the Honduras Human Rights and Anti-Corruption Act, a bill introduced by Senator Merkley, helped shape the Biden administration’s “root causes” strategy in Central America to improve citizen security, human rights, and economic conditions in the region. She is passionate about governance and rule of law issues in the Americas and, while at SPIA, hopes to explore in greater depth the connections between institution building and inclusive economic development. At the height of the Trump administration's refreeze of U.S.-Cuban relations, Caroline was a postgraduate fellow based for a year in Havana, where she conducted field research on Cuban private sector reform that was published by Foreign Policy. She graduated with a B.A. in history cum laude from Yale University in 2018. In her free time, she enjoys long runs, cooking for family and friends, and spending time outdoors.
