Clarke Wheeler
Biography
Clarke was most recently a government relations associate at Planned Parenthood of New York City, where she advocated for sexual and reproductive health, rights, and justice through stakeholder engagement, coalition partnerships, and policy analysis and advising. Prior to this role, she participated in the New York City Urban Fellows Program, through which she worked at the NYC Department of Consumer Affairs Office of Financial Empowerment and coordinated the NYC Free Tax Prep Initiative. While in New York City, she volunteered with groups dedicated to investing in girls, young women, and transgender and gender non-conforming (TGNC) youth of color, including the NYC Fund for Girls and Young Women of Color and BlackFem. She was also a participant in the Fellowship for Emerging Leaders in Public Service, a program of NYU Wagner and the NYU Leadership Initiative. Clarke graduated from Barnard College with a Bachelor of Arts in political science and Africana studies in 2016. While at Barnard, she developed a passion for social justice and public service through her participation in the NYC Civic Engagement Program, Student Government Association Committee on Inclusion and Equity, Emerging Leaders Program, and several public service internships. During her junior year, she spent a semester abroad in Salvador da Bahia, Brazil, where she learned about Afro-Brazilian history and culture, and improved her proficiency in Brazilian Portuguese. Clarke spent her summer before math camp in New Orleans with the Urban Leaders Fellowship. This past summer, she completed the MPA internship working with the Center for the Study of Social Policy. Born and raised in Washington, D.C., she plans to return to her hometown after graduation to work on federal child and family policy.
