Katie Comando
Biography
Born and raised in rural New York, Katie majored in international relations and French, and minored in Spanish and Latin American studies at SUNY Geneseo. She had the privilege of studying the politics of the European Union at the Sorbonne, and working for the Diplomatic Department of the Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores y Culto de Costa Rica. Katie studied French in Paris for a year, before joining AmeriCorps as part of the Community Health Corps, providing public health services to agricultural workers. In her time since, Katie has worked in Federal and State Government Affairs at the largest federally-qualified community health center in New York, directing budgetary, legislative, regulatory, and grassroots advocacy campaigns across a network of 2,000 staff and 250,000 patients from low-income and underserved regions. Prior to coming to Princeton, Katie worked closely with members of Congress on the formation of COVID-19 relief packages, advocating for support for communities of color, primary care networks, and access to care for uninsured and underinsured individuals. She was also honored to be a Geiger Gibson Health Policy Fellow at the George Washington University Milken Institute, and hopes to use these experiences to inform a future committed to expanding quality healthcare access nationwide. This summer, she worked as a Maternal and Child Health Policy Intern with the Health Resources and Services Administration of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
