Born and raised in South Florida, Ryan graduated from Washington University in St. Louis with a Bachelor of Arts in political science and women, gender, and sexuality studies. Prior to Princeton, he lived in Brooklyn, New York, and most recently served on the policy and advocacy team at UNICEF USA, where he worked to deepen the organization’s grassroots advocacy initiatives, launched a pilot of UNICEF’s global Child Friendly Cities Initiative in the United States, and completed a stretch assignment in the Geneva headquarters helping to coordinate UNICEF's engagement in the 2020 World Economic Forum Annual Meeting. Previously, Ryan worked on the government relations team of the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI), where he managed the organization’s relationships with government officials, heads of state, and multilateral organizations – including UNICEF. Ryan has a background in LGBTQ and women's rights advocacy having started his career with positions at the U.S. Agency for International Development and the Obama White House Office of Public Engagement. As a Harold W. Rosenthal Fellow, Ryan worked this summer with the United Nations Human Settlements Programme, supporting the development of UN-Habitat’s first-ever programme in Ukraine to address the country’s humanitarian, migrant, and refugee crisis. After graduation, he hopes to continue working in international relations and human rights with a focus on breaking down systemic inequities for traditionally marginalized populations.
