Yiping Li
Biography
Yiping was born in Shenzhen, China, and raised in the Southside of Chicago. During her undergraduate years, she discovered her passion for research through her major in psychology and created dozens of puppet shows to study infants' perception of causality. She also grappled with the concept of justice and the role of the legal system through her minor in classical studies. She was able to marry her interest in research and the law as an undergraduate research assistant at the Access to Justice Lab at Harvard Law School, where she supported a field experiment to examine the impact of self-guided packets for clients going through bankruptcy. Yiping also became well-versed in the Massachusetts General Laws after volunteering to assist dozens of individuals in the Greater Boston Region navigate through the Small Claims court system during her time at Harvard. Yiping is coming to Princeton after three years at J-PAL North America. At J-PAL North America, she supported state and local governments in designing and implementing randomized evaluations to answer priority policy questions in areas such as housing, judicial reform, and wildfire prevention. She also synthesized economic research into accessible products for a general audience with her most recent work being a comprehensive literature review on the effects of summer youth employment programs in the United States. Yiping is passionate about using rigorous evidence to reform the legal system and mitigate its impacts on economically and socially disadvantaged individuals, and she hopes to continue this work after graduating from Princeton. In her free time, Yiping enjoys trading skincare tips with her peers while sipping on perfectly brewed loose leaf teas.
