Guess, McCarty Join Commission Focused on Facebook’s Influence Over Elections and Democracy
Two Princeton University professors are part of a new initiative that will help social scientists to study the spread of information and misinformation on Facebook, and its influence over elections and democracy.Andrew Guess and Nolan McCarty, both of the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs, are part of Social Science One, an independent research commission that will provide social scientists unprecedented access to data inside Facebook.Social Science One, which is a partnership with Facebook, represents a novel relationship between academic researchers and private industry. $2.8-Million Grant Awarded to Program on Science and Global Security by MacArthur Foundation for Work on Reducing Nuclear Risks
Princeton University’s Program on Science and Global Security (SGS), based at the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs, received a $2.8-million grant from the MacArthur Foundation.The award will support SGS’ work in three main areas: ending production and use of plutonium and highly enriched uranium, the key materials in nuclear weapons; reforming nuclear weapons policies and posture to reduce reliance on nuclear weapons and the risk of their use; and advancing new approaches to nuclear arms control and disarmament verification.“In our work, we hope to create new opportunities to deepen understanding of today’s increasing nuclear…

Paul Frymer’s book, “Building an American Empire” won the J. David Greenstone Book Prize from the American Political Science Association (APSA) and the Distinguished Contribution to Scholarship, Political Sociology Section Book award from the American Sociological Association's (ASA) section in political sociology.Frymer is professor of politics and director of the Program in Law and Public Affairs at Princeton University and a Woodrow Wilson School associated faculty. Princeton’s Class of 2018 Boasts 114 Seniors from the Woodrow Wilson School
On June 5, 114 seniors who majored in the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs graduated as part of Princeton University’s Class of 2018. Book by Zelizer Named Winner of D.B. Hardeman Prize
The Lyndon Baines Johnson Foundation awarded the D.B. Hardeman Prize to Julian E. Zelizer’s book, “The Fierce Urgency of Now: Lyndon Johnson, Congress, and the Battle for the Great Society,” published in 2015 by the Penguin Press. The $10,000 prize is awarded annually for the best book on the U.S. Congress, from the fields of biography, history, journalism and political science.Zelizer is the Malcolm Stevenson Forbes, Class of 1941 Professor of History and Public Affairs at Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs and a CNN political analyst.
