Birkelund Gift Funds New Certificate Program in History and Diplomacy; Kotkin, Mullen to Co-Direct

A $5 million gift from investment executive John P. Birkelund, a member of Princeton's Class of 1952, has established the Program in History and the Practice of Diplomacy at the University. The new undergraduate certificate program, available to students beginning in the 2015–16 academic year, will provide preparation for careers in governmental and nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) that preserve stability and improve lives around the world. Currie Named Top Female Economist by World Economic Forum

In a list of the "Top 10 Female Economists," the World Economic Forum named Professor Janet Currie number four in the world.Currie, Henry Putnam Professor of Economics and Public Affairs and chair of Princeton University's Department of Economics, studies the health and well-being of children, including early intervention schemes, expansions of public health insurance, public housing and food and nutrition programs. Green '10 Receives 2015 Levine Book Prize

Jessica Green, Ph.D. ’10, was awarded the 2015 Levine Book Prize for her dissertation, “Rethinking Private Authority: Agents and Entrepreneurs in Global Environmental Governance,” published by Princeton University Press. Green, who studied international politics at the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs, is an assistant professor in the environmental studies department at New York University. The prize is sponsored by the international policy journal Governance and awarded by the International Political Science Association’s Research Committee on the Structure and Organization of Government. Moll Receives EIB Prize for Economic, Social Research

Benjamin Moll, an assistant professor of economics and international affairs, has been awarded the 2015 European Investment Bank Prize for excellence in economic and social research. Moll received the Young Economist Award in recognition of his work on the economics of inequality and economic growth. The prize will be awarded Nov. 11 in Luxembourg. Read more here.

Kurtzer Signs Letter Supporting Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action with Iran

Seven former United States ambassadors to Israel and former under secretaries of state sent a letter to the leadership of Congress urging those who advocate rejecting the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) with Iran to consider carefully the consequences of such an action.Among the seven signatories was Daniel Kurtzer, lecturer and the S. Wilson School Remembers Richard C. Leone, MPA ’65, Ph.D. ’69

A message from Dean Cecilia Rouse: Richard C. Leone, MPA ’65, Ph.D. ’69 passed away last week at the age of 75. He was most recently a senior fellow at the Century Foundation (formerly the Twentieth Century Fund), where he served as president from 1989 to 2011. Dick was an important presence at the Woodrow Wilson School. He was the first student to receive a Ph.D. in public affairs at the School, having completed an MPA focusing on urban affairs four years prior. He is remembered for his sharp intellect, which he combined with a hands-on ability to get things done. Dick used these skills in multiple roles in both state and federal government: his…
