Daniel Vonarburg
Biography
Born in Boston, Massachusetts, and raised in both Switzerland and central New Jersey, Dan pursued his undergraduate degree at the University of Michigan, earning a B.S. in economics and German with a minor in statistics. Upon graduation, he spent two years in Raleigh, North Carolina, serving as a bank examiner at the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. With the FDIC, he worked in the Division of Risk Management Supervision to assess emerging financial risks and ensure compliance with Federal regulations in banks across the country. He completed his MPA internship this summer within the Office of Corporate Finance, Division of Economic and Risk Analysis, at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission through the SEC Scholars Program. Dan is happy to be back in his home state, but is even more excited for the opportunity to take the next step in his public service career with his studies at SPIA. Through the MPA program, he hopes to combine his regulatory experience at the FDIC with a deeper understanding of policymaking in the financial and banking sectors. He is particularly motivated by the importance of advancing cooperation between financial regulators at the international level, and hopes to use his SPIA education to contribute to the ongoing efforts to unify and regulate an increasingly complex global financial system. In his free time, Dan enjoys listening to alternative rock, finding perfect food and wine pairings, and studying any language he has the patience to learn.
