SPIA in Africa is one focus of our outreach and partnership efforts this year as we work to address our strategic pillar of internalization.

We kicked off a five country tour of West Africa in Ghana – and what a turnout we had!

Thanks to everyone who joined us at our information sessions.

One organization we want to highlight is Emerging Public Leaders (EPL). EPL is driving Africa’s development by creating a new generation of public servants committed to social impact. They believe Africa’s development and economic growth can be accelerated through building a stronger civil service from the bottom up. EPL was founded by SPIA alumna and current advisory board member Betsy Williams from the great class of 1998. We enjoyed meeting with EPL Fellows – past and present – over dinner. What an inspiring bunch of young people! One can’t help but feel the future is bright after those conversations.

We also appreciated input and insight into great organizations doing great work from SPIA great Jonathan Kaufman MPA '08, the Executive Director at Advocates for Community Alternatives.

The responsiveness of SPIA alumni in Ghana to our requests for connections and ideas was remarkable. We are hopeful to bring more people from Ghana to Princeton in the coming years.

To all those we met in Accra – whether at a university, government ministry, information session, or over a meal – thank you! Thank you for sharing your energy. Thank you for your interest in our community. And thank you for all the ways in which you are serving in Accra and across the region.
