In continuing our global outreach, we are excited about recent travels to Latin America, visiting Mexico, Colombia, and Chile, to promote greater awareness about SPIA’s graduate programs in public policy and international affairs.
In Bogota, we had the opportunity to meet with more than 20 organizations and institutions, speaking with representatives from Belize, Guatemala, Colombia, Uruguay, Cuba, and Brazil at a central event. We enjoyed conversations with the Belize Ministry of Public Service, and the Ministries of Education from Mexico, Curacao, and Cuba. In addition, it was great to meet with country-wide scholarship programs, research and innovation organizations, and college representatives. We appreciated the opportunity to spread awareness about Princeton’s commitment towards scholarship, research, public service, and internationalization.
In Medellin, we visited the Universidad de Antioquia and Universidad EAFIT. These universities represent some of the best students in Colombia. Commitment to public service and country are central components of their mission. Universidad de Antioquia is one of the oldest universities in Colombia, and it was great to learn about the University’s history, and its commitment towards preparing students for public life. Universidad EAFIT’s physical campus is built around the natural landscape of Medellin and possesses an intricate rainwater preservation and purification system that helps preserve the island’s natural resources. While touring, it was great to experience cultural programming that celebrated Colombia’s indigenous heritage and commitments towards land preservation. In the center of campus, there were hundreds of students reciting and performing. It was powerful!

After two years of pandemic-related virtual visits and conversations over zoom, it was great to meet students where they are. Mexico, Colombia, and Chile are home to students with great passion and commitment towards public service. Latin America is full of organizations and public policy professionals who will help change the landscape of our world. Together with Princeton, the possibilities are endless.
