The panel discussion, “The Kerner Report,” will feature include Eddie S. Glaude, Jr., chair of the department for African American Studies and the William S. Tod Professor of Religion and African American Studies at Princeton; Imani Perry, the Hughes-Rogers Professor of African American Studies at Princeton University; and Julian Zelizer, the Malcolm Stevenson Forbes, Class of 1941 Professor of History and Public Affairs at the Woodrow Wilson School. A book sale and signing will follow the discussion.

Eddie Glaude, Jr. is among the most important black intellectuals in the United States today. He offers a critical and insightful view on the problems currently facing black America as well as the nation at large. Glaude’s new book, “Democracy in Black: How Race Still Enslaves the American Soul” (Crown Publishing, 2016), provides an account of the current state of race in the United States. 

Imani Perry serves as a faculty associate in the Program in Law and Public Affairs and the Program in Gender and Sexuality Studies. She is the author of “More Beautiful and More Terrible: The Embrace and Transcendence of Racial Inequality in the United States” (NYU Press, 2011) and “Prophets of the Hood: Politics and Poetics in Hip Hop” (Duke University Press, 2004) and numerous articles in the fields of law, cultural and literary studies. In 2017, her book, “May We Forever Stand: A History of the Black National Anthem,” will be published by Oxford University Press, and “Vexy Thing: A Book on Gender” by Duke University Press.

Julian Zelizer is one of the pioneers in the revival of American political history. He is the author of numerous books, the most recent of which is “The Fierce Urgency of Now: Lyndon Johnson, Congress, and the Battle for the Great Society” (2015). He has edited 10 books on American political history, with subjects ranging from politics and the media to the presidency of George W. Bush. Zelizer is a frequent commentator in the international and national media on political history and contemporary politics and is a weekly columnist on CNN.com.
