Dean's Leadership Series - A Conversation with Edward Wong, New York Times
"Empires on the Edge"
Join Edward Wong, the New York Times diplomatic correspondent and expert on global affairs, for an in-depth discussion on international events. He will talk about his new book, “At the Edge of Empire: A Family’s Reckoning with China,” that looks at a central drive of the Chinese Communist Party: its efforts to reconstitute an empire, a project in which his father took part as a soldier under Mao, and the far-reaching consequences of that for U.S.-China relations and world affairs. He will discuss the outlook on U.S. foreign policy just days after the election and explore developments in the Middle East, Ukraine-Russia, China, and how the election results could reshape America's global strategy. Wong has covered international news and global affairs for over two decades, focusing on the multipolar world, authoritarian states, and superpower rivalries involving the United States. He travels with the U.S. secretary of state to report on diplomacy at pivotal moments in history.
