Anonymity or Distance? Job Search and Labour Market Exclusion in a Growing African City Talk featuring Paolo Falco, Labor Market Economist at the OECD’s Directorate for Employment, Labour and Social Affairs
Dr. Paolo Falco is an economist at the OECD with a background in development economics. In his recent research, he and a team of co-authors experimentally evaluate the impact of two programmes to assist job search in Ethiopia: a transport subsidy and a workshop that improves jobseekers’ ability to demonstrate their skills to employers. Both interventions have large positive effects in the short run. After four years, the workshop leads to significantly higher earnings and better matching between workers and jobs. These results suggest that such programmes can both benefit individual recipients and have positive impacts on the overall efficiency of the labour market. In this session, Dr. Falco will discuss his recent paper in the context of his broader research agenda. Additional details can be found on his webpage: www.paolofalco.com.
