Stanley N Katz, lecturer with rank of professor of politics and international affairs at Princeton University’ Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs, has received the inaugural “ISTR Lecture Award” from the International Society for Third-Sector Research (ISTR).
On July 1, 2016, at Ersta Skondal University College in Stockholm, Sweden, Katz delivered the Prize Lecture as part of ISTR’s 12th annual international conference.
Katz’s lecture, “Can We Save the World Through Generosity? Philanthropy Scholarship in the Age of the MegaFoundation,” reflected on his 40-plus-year career in the field of third sector studies as well as how the field has evolved over the decades.
The new annual award honors scholars who have significantly contributed to the growth and scientific development of ISTR’s multidisciplinary field of research, and recognizes distinguished scholarship on philanthropy and the non-governmental organization sector.
Katz’s recent research focuses upon the relationship of civil society and constitutionalism to democracy, and upon the relationship of the United States to the international human rights regime. He also serves as director of the Princeton University Center for Arts and Cultural Policy Studies and president emeritus of the American Council of Learned Societies.
