The Princeton School of Public and International Affairs has promoted two key administrators and restructured diversity and inclusion initiatives to enhance school-wide priorities including student affairs.

Tam Le Rovitto was named Assistant Dean for Diversity and Inclusion and Student Affairs; she had been serving as Director of Graduate Student Life. Ariel Matos, who had been Associate Director for Diversity and Inclusion programs, is now Director of Diversity and Inclusion. Both moves are effective immediately.

“These are integral positions within the School,” said SPIA Dean Amaney Jamal. “We are deeply committed to creating an inclusive and welcoming space for all students, faculty, and staff. I am delighted that Tam and Ariel will step into these newly created roles.”

In her new position, Rovitto will continue to oversee student affairs and create programs and policies that foster SPIA students’ wellness, inclusion, and sense of belonging. She will continue to oversee student support, crisis management, the Princeton University Policy Student Government, the Journal of Public and International Affairs, summer programs for incoming students, and hooding.  With the Dean’s Office, she will be in charge of programming and initiatives for faculty and staff as well.

Rovitto has been with Princeton SPIA for two years. Prior to joining the School, she was part of a team that formalized diversity training curricula for clinicians in training at Rutgers University. She has also published scholarship on cultural humility, a framework that emphasizes lifelong self-reflection, recognizing power dynamics and imbalances, and institutional accountability. Outside of her work at Princeton, Rovitto is a diversity and inclusion facilitator for various organizations.

In his new role, Matos will partner with Rovitto on diversity and inclusion programming. He has been with SPIA for five years and has a wealth of experience in student life. He will continue to lead and support co-curricular programming, providing mentorship and advisement to students, managing weekly D&I dinners, supporting SPIA affinity groups and the SPIA Mentor Program, and leading the Junior Summer Institute and other SPIA signature programs.

Prior to joining the D&I team, Matos worked as Associate Director of Graduate Admissions at SPIA. His experience in higher education includes college admissions, student development, diversity and inclusion, program management, and financial aid. Outside of his work at Princeton, Matos advises and volunteers with various community-based organizations in the city of Trenton, New Jersey.

“Both Tam and Ariel have demonstrated leadership and commitment to Princeton SPIA’s students and its D&I program,” Jamal said. “I am grateful to both of them and look forward to working with them.”
