A Dec. 11 article in The New York Times, “China’s Emissions Pledges Are Undercut by Boom in Coal Projects Abroad,” cited the research of Phillip Hannam MPA ‘15, a doctoral candidate in the School’s Program in Science, Technology and Environmental Policy (STEP). The article discusses how Chinese state enterprises continue to build coal-fired plants throughout Asia, even as that country has pledged to stop the growth of its own greenhouse gas emissions by 2030, mostly through reduction in coal usage.
