Statement on Academic Freedom
Dear SPIA community,
At the University faculty meeting earlier this week, Princeton President Christopher Eisgruber delivered a statement “reaffirming the University’s steadfast support” of academic freedom. Shortly after that, he responded to a letter from U.S. Rep. Josh Gottheimer with a statement noting that “Princeton will work vigorously to ensure that all students can thrive here, but not by censoring our curriculum.”
I applaud President Eisgruber’s vigorous defense of academic freedom and reiterate my support for and commitment to it. The Princeton School of Public and International Affairs welcomes – and needs – a wide variety of viewpoints as an inherently vital part of our educational mission.
Thank you for all you do for SPIA.
All the best,
Amaney Jamal, Dean
