Student Spotlight—Melania Guerra Carrillo MPP ’21

SPIA extends many congratulations to Melania Guerra Carrillo (MPP ’21) on her selection to the Forbes 100 Most Powerful Women of Central America (page 50).

This recognition is awarded to women from Central America and the Dominican Republic, spanning different interests and industries, including science, medicine, activism, and athletics. They are all performing at a high level of innovation and ability. Independent of their profession, these accomplished women all have one thing in common: they are proof that one can always go further than expected.

Melania is a scientist by training, and earned her Ph.D. in Oceanography. She has a background in mechanical engineering, space technologies and oceanography, and specializes in climate change and ocean governance. She champions policies that promote climate action advancement, marine conservation and sustainable development. Melania has focused on the Arctic ecosystem for over 10 years.

Congratulations, Melania. We are thrilled you are a member of our community!
