The Council of the Humanities invites you to join the Ferris Seminars in Journalism for a free screening of the newly-released film Spotlight, the critically acclaimed tale of how enterprising reporters dug out startling facts about the Catholic priest abuse scandal. The film highlights the value of investigative reporting and details how it was accomplished by The Boston Globe’s “Spotlight Team.” The all-star cast includes Michael Keaton, Rachel McAdams, Mark Ruffalo, Liev Schreiber, and Stanley Tucci.

The film will be followed by a 9:15 p.m. panel discussion featuring nationally prominent journalists who know the reporters portrayed and who will discuss the craft of accountability reporting. The conversation will be led by Ferris Professor Joe Stephens, a veteran investigative reporter for The Washington Post who has written extensively about sexual abuse in the church. 

Panelists will include James B. Steele, a two-time Pulitzer Prize-winner who writes for Vanity Fair magazine, and Laura Secor, a former Boston Globe reporter who now freelances for a publications such as The New Yorker and The New York Times Magazine. Secor is teaching journalism this semester at Princeton.

The event is complimentary for members of the Princeton University community and their guests, with 120 seats available on a first come, first serve basis. Please make sure to bring your Princeton ID to the theater box office for entry.
