From the presenter: My talk explores the line that runs from the German-Jewish “free law”-movement before World War I to Nazi “life”-jurists like Carl Schmitt. I propose that both right-wing and left-wing strands of realistic, anti-positivist jurisprudence between 1900 and 1949 can be analyzed under the rubric of what I call “German legal modernism.”
