The far-right candidate Jair Bolsonaro has been elected the new President of Brazil, the world’s fourth largest democracy. Economist Arminio Fraga (former president of the Brazilian Central Bank) will discuss the challenges that a Bolsonaro government poses for democratic institutions, political and social rights, and sustainable development.

Arminio Fraga *85 is an Economist and Co-Founder of Gávea Investments. He presided over the Brazilian Central Bank (1999-2003) and is currently a member of Princeton’s Board of Trustees.

Jeremy Adelman is the Henry Charles Lea Professor of History and Director of the Global History Lab.

This event is organized by the Brazil LAB (Luso-Afro-Brazilian Studies) and the Princeton Institute for International and Regional Studies. It is co-sponsored by the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs, the Program in Latin American Studies, and the Department of Spanish and Portuguese.
