Paul Lipton, who has served in a number of senior roles at Boston University, joins Princeton’s Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs as associate dean of undergraduate education, effective July 1.

Lipton has served as associate director of Boston University’s Kilachand Honors College since 2017 and as director of the Undergraduate Program in Neuroscience since 2013. In his new position at the Woodrow Wilson School, he will oversee all operations of the undergraduate program.

“Paul has a rich understanding of the undergraduate student experience. He uniquely shaped the vision and strategy of undergraduate programming at Boston University, and we can’t wait for him to bring that same energy and in-depth perspective to the Woodrow Wilson School,” said Dean Cecilia Elena Rouse.

In his new role, Lipton will manage the undergraduate curriculum, which includes more than 60 courses and seminars and six overseas programs offered each academic year. Serving as department head, he will oversee all issues related to the approximately 250 Woodrow Wilson School undergraduate majors. He also will manage the undergraduate program budget and its endowment, while also directing the funding process for internships and senior thesis research.

Lipton will lead a committed four-person staff and be a voting member of the program’s faculty committees on curriculum, advising, and prizes. Serving as an integral member of the School’s leadership team, he will regularly interact with other members of Dean Rouse’s senior staff to effectively manage the undergraduate program.

At Boston University, Lipton held several appointments focused on undergraduate programming. He led several interdisciplinary faculty teams to develop new degree-granting programs and courses for science and non-science majors. From 2014 to 2017, he oversaw the university-wide Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program, through which faculty-student partnerships across a wide disciplinary spectrum inspired the next generation of scientists, scholars, entrepreneurs, and artists. For the Undergraduate Program in Neuroscience, he served as director, associate director, and academic director between 2010 and 2019. He also served as associate director of the College of Arts and Sciences Core Curriculum at Boston University.

Lipton has extensive teaching experience through tenures at Boston University and Bowdoin College.

He has a Ph.D. in psychology from Boston University, a master’s degree in neurobiology and behavior from the State University of New York at Stony Brook, and a bachelor’s degree in economics from the State University of New York at Buffalo.
