I studied accounting at Universiti Malaya, thinking I’d run a company someday, but soon realized I had much more interest in public policy – after all, it shaped my family’s destiny so profoundly.

I want to work towards economic development in low- and middle-income countries and making sure it really helps people attain better lives, just like what my family had experienced.

I grew up in Malaysia where my father was a truck driver, while my mother was a babysitter. Within one generation, my elder brother became a medical doctor, my younger sister will work at the central bank, and here I am a Princeton's SPIA. It was thanks to my parents’ dedication, and we were also blessed with things like universal health care, access to good schools, and a growing economy. For years, I took these things for granted until I slowly understood they were outcomes of government policy. Before Princeton, I worked at Securities Commission Malaysia, where I helped develop the sustainable finance markets. Having seen how powerful finance can be for good ends, I became interested to work toward ensuring finance serves people and the real economy. This includes improving the ways finance shapes our infrastructure, how the system supports economies and living standards, and whether it helps meet our climate goals. I took a job offer from CPCS, an infrastructure advisory firm where I’ll work on public-private partnerships (PPP), policy and financing for developing solar power plants, roads, bridges, ports, etc. In a way, I feel like living a dream within a dream — being part of SPIA still feels unreal sometimes, and I now got a job to work on something I believe to be truly important.
